  1. You forgot to include the most popular one, rapidshare (http://www.rapidshare.com).

  2. Nice list! Although I would have preferred it separated into the temporary hosting sites such as YouSendIt and the permanent ones such as box.net and esnips.

Also, Xdrive is in the list, but many people have had trouble with the reliability. Including me! I haven’t been able to log in to my account for many months. I’m thinking there are other smaller startups that could use the exposure.

  3. So far, Mediamax offers the biggest free online storage of 25 GB. I have yet to find one that gives out bigger space. However, mediamax tends to be unreliable at times when it comes to uploading of files.

  4. File Front has caused nothing but trouble for me in the past. It always lags out! File Factory is good, but I need something with larger file sizes. Badongo has been referred to me but doesn’t work well for me. Megaupload and Rapidshare are a nightmare to download from (unless you have premium). Files-upload was terrible for me. Divshare is nice, but I wouldn’t reccommend it as they are likely to scan ALL files, resulting in absolutely no privacy. I have a T3 Connection (VERY FAST!!!) and have had problems with all of these websites. The two that caught my eye were Deposit Files and Upfile. Hopefully one will work!

  5. Great list. Very useful in choosing a service. Thanks!

  8. Mozy isn’t listed, although some people say it’s the best. Also, Carbonite is another popular one not listed.

  9. so far the largest free online storage is ADrive. You get 50GB when you sign up!

  10. Thanks for this useful list. Anyone tried http://www.adrive.com

  11. It is very good site for the professional peoples, i hope that if you continue this you will reach on the peak

  12. You might want to check out File-Works, an easy-to-use secure file sharing site that lets you control who can do what with which file.

It’s little sister is Free File-Works, where you can send very large files to one or more people for free.

  16. Nice blog, i have added it to my favourites, greetings

  17. Great list. One correction is needed:

MyDataBus is not (or no longer) free.

    Also a comment:
XDrive is being “sunsetted” by AOL, so it may not be around for long. Athough, it might be up for sale.

  18. Divshare must have changed since it does not allow unlimited uploads as stated in this article. The free account limit is 5GB, and the individual file size limit is 200MB. It has a download limit of 10GB per month.

  19. Yuntaa looks nice, easy to upload but always freezes. I wish they can sort that out.

I really found driveway difficult to use and manage. I believe the lack of interface is wrong.

Is there anything like free, easy to use and stable product for online file storage, that really works?

  20. Sometimes it is better to pay for a service instead of getting it for free.

  21. What about FilesAnywhere? FA has been around for ages and still has more features than any mentioned here. Works perfectly as a web hard drive, photo sharing, direct webdav access, etc.

You get a 1GB free account with no ads. They just released a new version. Definitely worth checking out, even their free service is great.

    http://www.filesanywhere.com

  22. I have the same question as Tim. What about FilesAnywhere? I have never used online file storage. I’m shopping right now. FilesAnywhere has been around a long time, and it looks great. But for some reason, it is not mentioned in ANY of the numerous recent reviews I have found on the web. What’s up with that? Does FilesAnywhere have a problem — or does it get overlooked just because it’s not the new kid on the block?

  23. I want to upload some pictures and videos somewhere so that my friends and other people can wach these files before downloading.
Is there anything like that for free?

  24. nice site

  25. Man that’s a long list πŸ™‚

I tried Yuntaa. You can only upload 100Mb at a time with the built in Flash uploader, for larger file you need to install the Yuntaa Uploader.

  26. My favorite file uploading site is Sling File http://www.slingfile.com for free 1GB uploads and free file hosting.

  27. A new one to add to the list is http://www.GeniusRoom.com/ – they combine free file storage (5GB) with chat, teleconferencing, and presentation tools. You can invite others to share your space, or use it as a personal office online.

  28. http://app.spiveyworks.com/explorer is a file uploading web site that is built on a world class network and lets you easily share 100 MB PowerPoint decks quickly.

  29. RapidShare isn’t really an online backup site. They just allow you to share a file. Thanks for the article. I’ve used http://www.myotherdrive.com from my Mac. It is really nice now.

  30. Gotta love the effort you put into this blog πŸ™‚

  31. can any body tell me a site from where i can upload files upto 1gb and sell them

  32. is there a 100MB per file free, no 10GB (or whatever) bandwidth limit, no time limit, no simultaneous download limit file hosting service on the web !!! i don’t mind signing up… it’s just that i can’t stand all of the limits… it’s HOPELESS… >:(

  33. DropBoks is there ok, but DROPBOX is not. The one with X in the name is extremely handy with an access from your desktop directly. And the free storage is currently 2GB! It can be found from http://www.getdropbox.com .

  34. So i was on mydatanest.com and decided to sign up for it. It is very very well built, and for a startup of its age, very smooth. It has a few inconveniences, but its reliability and features are second to none.

  35. I work in law enforcement but travel weekly, so I usually lug around an external hard drive. I don’t back it up often enough, though, and I worry about the possibilty of losing data…

I’m looking for a PAY-site that offers an ABSOLUTE guarantee that the files/documents/pictures/etc uploaded to the server will remain confidential.

    Any ideas?

  36. Thank you so much — for the list and all the feedback comments re: personal experiences!
I am so glad I found this information.

  38. I’d like to add icloud to the list.

    http://icloud.com

You get 3GB of storage for Free and can access your files from any smartphone. Icloud is the ideal solution for secure online file storage, sharing and backup.

  39. you missed http://www.100upload.com it is very fast new server and offer a lot of options and also has payment plan

  40. The simples file sharing online service http://www.filejumbo.com

  41. Flazhshare.com – Online File Sharing πŸ™‚ Don’t forget

  42. Why doesn’t some big company like Microsoft, Google, or Yahoo offer it’s own fee-based storage service?

I want a reliable online storage place (archives) for my personal files (not necessarily for sharing) — that doesn’t have to be linked to what’s currently on my computer’s hard drive.

I would much rather pay a big, major company — knowing that there’s not much of a chance that they’ll suddenly go out of business without any advance notice.

What worries me about the companies already on this list is: what happens to my files if the company hosting the service goes out of business with no advance notice given?

To mitigate this risk, should I consider using more than one of the providers on this list — and replicating my file storage on each?

Would appreciate some comments on the ‘risk’ of losing your files if the online storage service goes out of business.

    Thanks.

    Bethany

  43. are there any storage that can be uploaded up to 100GB? thank you!! godbless.,
